You could be one of them. Here’s what you need to know about how to start a WordPress blog.

How To Start a Blog WordPress Style

You’ll need a few things before you get started with your blog. If you’re planning to use it for content marketing or your own business, you definitely need to get a domain. You can do this through another website hosting service like GoDaddy or BlueHost. To get started, you need:

  • A unique name that’s easy to remember
  • Webhosting from GoDaddy, Bluehost, or another option of your choosing
  • At least an hour to set-up your domain properly.

Setting up your domain will likely be the most technical aspect of getting your blog going. There are multiple sites offering tutorials for this, and many hosting companies will walk you through the process.

Create A WordPress Account

Your next step will be to create a WordPress account. It’s best to use something associated with your domain, but use something that you can remember if that’s not available.

Once your account is created, it’s time to install the WordPress platform through your hosting site.

Install WordPress

Once your domain is chosen and set-up, it’s time to install WordPress. With a hosting company like BlueHost, this will already be done. All you’ll have to do is log in to your account and move onto the next step.

With other hosting options, however, you’ll have to install WordPress manually. This depends on each company, so you’ll want to reach out and ask how to do it or follow their detailed instructions.

With WordPress installed, you move onto the fun stuff.

Pick Your Theme

WordPress is home to thousands of popular themes. There are so many that you’re bound to find one that works for you and what your goal is.

Some themes are free, while others are more in-depth and need to be paid for. Whatever you decide, head to the Appearance option on your Dashboard and to “Themes.” From there, you can search for features you like, layouts, and plug accessibility.

When you find a theme that works for you, go ahead and install it. Once you do that, you can start adjusting it to fit your brand colors, fonts, and more!

Get To Blogging

With your WordPress theme picked out and your site set-up, you’re ready to start blogging. You can go back to your dashboard and “Add New” to begin working on your first blog post.

Write your text, add images, create categories, and optimize your tags. Once you get into the groove of posting, it will surprise you how easy it is.

Now that you know how to start a WordPress blog, you’ll be a seasoned blogger before you know it!
